About Us
What is TSS?
We’re a non-profit corporation that was established in June 2017 to serve as the scrap tire management and recycling program operator in Saskatchewan.
Working with stakeholders and the public, we ensure that scrap tires are recycled in an environmentally friendly and sound manner.
Why recycle tires?
Recycling keeps a major pollutant out of landfills, preventing soil and groundwater contamination. Stockpiled tires can be fire hazards and release toxic smoke and oil into the air. By redistributing them for recycling, fires can be reduced greatly.

Passenger Car/Light Truck (PLT)
- Lightweight fill for road embankments
- Drainage layers under roads and parking lots
- Landfill leachate drainage systems
- Frost heave mitigation in cold climates
- Septic system drainage media

Medium Truck (MTRK)
- Road base stabilization
- Retaining wall backfill
- Bridge abutment insulation
- Lightweight construction fill

Agricultural Tires (AG)
- Rural road subgrade stabilization
- Farm access road drainage
- Erosion control fill
- Lightweight backfill in soft soils

Off-the-Road/Mining Medium
(OTR I)
- Rural road subgrade stabilization
- Farm access road drainage
- Erosion control fill
- Lightweight backfill in soft soils

Off-the-Road/Mining Large
(OTR II)
- Major embankment projects
- Landfill engineering layers
- Port and industrial yard construction
- Noise and vibration mitigation layers
Tire-Derived Aggregate (TDA)
Tire-Derived Aggregate (TDA) drains better than gravel, weighs less than soil, insulates against frost, and performs well under freeze-thaw cycles, making it an excellent choice for Saskatchewan’s cold climate and expansive infrastructure
Out of program materials
- Tires with rim size 7” or smaller — too small for processing
- OTR tires with rim size larger than 39” — exceeds equipment limits
- Tires still mounted on rims — must be removed before drop-off
- Foam-filled tires — cannot be shredded or processed
- Wheelbarrow tires — incompatible material type
- Packer wheels — solid construction prevents recycling
- Solid forklift tires — non-processable rubber composition
- Snowmobile or quad tracks — not classified as recyclable tires
- Bicycle or e-bike tires — not part of the current program
- Recapped or retreaded tires — layered construction prevents processing
- Wheelchair or mobility-aid tires — not accepted at this time
- Tire tubes and bike tires — currently excluded
PLEASE NOTE
Fees also apply to disposal of scrap tires not accompanied by a new tire sale, and warranty replacement tires.Classification Fees
